    Job Description:



    The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) and Data Management teams. Key responsibilities include oversight of the day-to-day operations for union benefit and attendance rule execution; union benefit remittances; employee maintenance transactions call center operations, and payment distribution for union employees.


    • Execute company strategies and objectives.
    • Direct day-to-day operations in accordance with all federal, state and local laws, collective bargaining agreements and all corporate policies and procedures.
    • Drive a culture of service excellence within the team, promoting “best in class” customer service.
    • Provide support, training, mentoring, and leadership to staff on an ongoing basis to ensure a fully efficient payroll operation, overall professional growth and the department’s ability to meet all company deadlines.
    • Work collaboratively with Labor Relations and Operations to ensure the correct interpretation and execution of pay, benefit and attendance plan rules.
    • Work collaboratively with Payroll leaders to ensure the appropriate application of new or changing collective bargaining agreements.
    • Monitor ongoing operations and adjust as necessary to meet changing conditions.
    • Ensure that union benefit contributions are set up, maintained, paid and reported in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Ensure timely and accurate payroll data entry and processing of all transactions by establishing edit, audit and review policies and procedures.
    • Employ expertise, credibility and effective collaborating to help identify, evaluate, and resolve complex and sensitive issues, problems and service needs.
    • Develop and maintain payroll processes and internal controls to preserve the quality, efficiency and overall effectiveness of all payroll functions and regulatory compliance and to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls.
    • Coordinate information sharing between payroll teams and other departments to maintain an efficient and practical approach to the delivery of payroll services and training to internal customers.
    • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses as required by management, internal customers and auditors.
    • Develop and sustain effective business relationships with GES departments and governmental agencies.
    • Lead initiatives targeting process improvements, operational efficiencies and service delivery.


    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related discipline preferred
    • CPP certification preferred
    • Minimum six-eight years of in-house union payroll and benefit experience
    • Minimum five years leading, coaching and engaging employees
    • Experience in shared-service center preferred
    • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll administration, including federal and state wage & hour and tax regulations, in a multi-state environment.
    • Working knowledge of multiemployer pension plans and critical status notices.
    • Working knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution plans and related laws and regulations.
    • Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements for pay rules; health and welfare; and pension plan rules; and employee vacation, sick and holiday plan rules.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form, including ability to interact face-to-face with customers.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects, handle multiple tasks effectively, prioritize requests, and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must be able to handle confidential information and issues effectively and without breach of confidentiality.
    • Excellent research, computation and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Strong Excel skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment and foster teamwork.
    • Ability to design, implement and refine complex processes and to optimize performance.
    • Skilled in change management and experienced with developing and implementing major initiatives.
