    The Drafter in the Convention Planning Department is responsible for producing floor plans, layout and drawings for GES tradeshows and events. The Drafter is responsible for ensuring all Fire Department Codes are regulations are followed for each floor plan. This is a fast paced position that requires the accurate production of floor plans with quick turnaround times.  


    • Produce floor plans, layouts and drawings for GES trade shows and events using AutoCAD Release 2012 software.
    • Ensures the show/event layout is properly designed and drawn according to specifications outlined by Account Manager and Client.
    • Ensures that all Fire Department codes and regulations are followed on each floor plan.
    • Ensure all floor plans are not only submitted to Fire Department jurisdictions in a timely manner, but also ensure they are approved before show opening.
    • Ensure all facilities are kept current and accurate in assigned cities/regions.
    • Maintains drawings of all convention and meeting room facilities assigned.
    • Provide timely technical assistance and solutions to the team.
    • Participate in project meetings and conference calls as required.
    • Maintain all revisions of project drawings, posting the updated drawing to the required internal drive when completed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned and deemed necessary of the position under the direction of the Sr. Manager of Convention Planning.



    • Associates Degree or technical degree equivalent in drafting.
    • Proficient in use of AutoCAD software version 2010 or higher.
    • Minimum two years of experience in drafting, architectural or civil emphasis.        
    • Convention and Trade Show experience preferred, but not required.
    • Proficient computer skills including Excel and Word.



    • Candidate must be a self-starter and work independently of supervision or direction.
    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
    • Candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Must possess a cooperative attitude and work well with others

    Work Environment

    • May require overtime during busy periods
    • Work performed in an office setting – sitting at a computer
    • 90% Work may involve repetitive motion (i.e. constant keying, using fingers or grasping of objects).
    • 10% Work involves occasional exertion of physical effort (i.e. periods of standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting).
    • Requires the ability to lift and maneuver 20 lb rolls of paper for the plotters.
