The intermediate, or staff graphic designer is responsible for the design of graphic applications such as collateral material, environmental graphics, corporate identity, branding, and multimedia interfaces — from concept to completion. He/She has the ability to combine visual sensitivity with skill and knowledge in areas of communications, technology and business. Graphic designers specialize in the structuring and organizing of visual information to aid communication and navigation. They are problem solvers who can be characterized by creativity, innovation and technical expertise.


  • Utilize artistic sensibility and skill to create designs or images for reproduction by any means of visual communication concerned with illustration; typography; surface design for packaging; or the design of patterns, books, advertising and publicity material, or any form of visual communication.
  • Understand the unique offerings and goals of our clients, their competitors and the target audience in order to develop effective design solutions created from the manipulation, combination and utilization of shape, color, imagery, typography and space.
  • Collaborate with creative team and internal account team on marketing communication pieces including overall theme development and individual piece designs through a variety of channels.
  • Communicate with vendors to assure quality in production (printing, sculpting, scenic finishes, etc).
  • Ability to direct/collaborate with freelance designers to produce large quantities of graphics for a single exhibition or event while maintaining consistent aesthetic.
  • Must be able to apply style guides creatively while upholding brand identity for GES, as well as our multiple clients.
  • Deliver design projects within the agreed upon budget and timeline.    
  • Seek out new products and maintain edge industry knowledge relative to 2-dimensional design, printing techniques, interactive programming, and experiential opportunities.
  • File and format all design work in the appropriate location and form compliant with the standards used within the design department and GES.
  • Attend meetings and press checks as assigned


  • 3+ years design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm
  • College degree in design related field preferred
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud
  • Self-starter, with an open mind to creative direction
  • Adaptable and quick learner
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and time-management skills
  • Strong writing skills, ability to detect and correct language errors before graphics are printed
  • Good understanding of printing/production processes
  • Developing presentation and communication skills

Work Environment

  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime, as needed
  • May be required to travel to meet with clients for meetings or presentations
